MIXED GEMS
October 28-31, 2021
August Studios: 510 Clark Drive
Consciously or unconsciously, creating art can be impacted by the artist’s surroundings and their personal and cultural experience. In a multicultural city like Vancouver, most people are influenced by their background; symbolism, language and tradition drawn from diverse personal histories.
Mixed Gems aims to be a celebration of mixed identity and it’s expression through art. Through their artwork, the participating artists explore their personal understanding of their mixed cultural heritage.
The Art Shop (TAS) aims to connect with the people of Vancouver with pop up exhibitions presenting local emerging artists. Hoping to create opportunities to engage with the local talent while exploring relatable and accessible themes.

special event
During our fifth pop up, two artists created a work on site to demonstrate their process and demystify the work of an artist. The works that were created publicly were then auctioned and all proceeds were donated to the non-profit Mosaic.

special collaborator
We were excited to collaborate with local small publishing house, Salt & Citrus, who launched an issue that included poems, stories and other writings by talented local and emerging writers who related to the curatorial theme of Mixed Gems.
